Classification and labelling

The REACH regulation includes no rules with respect to the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and preparations, but is based on the provisions of the CLP regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging of chemicals). REACH uses CLP for its safety data sheets (with the determining of the conditions for use and measures for risk management to ensure the protection of health and the environment). It is an essential tool to distribute information along the whole purchasing chain up to the final user (consumer or employee).

The ECHA also draws up an inventory of classification and labelling to ensure the transparency of the classification of dangers (and the resulting labelling) of all dangerous substances manufactured or imported in the EU.

If you have more questions about  the labelling of chemical substances and preparations you can send a mail to chemicals@environment.belgium.be
